Lyrics to 'Music Biz'
written by Troy Neilson
produced by J-Bru

chorus 4x:
The music biz is corrupt.
Yeah that's right yall, you gots to know whats up

Pimp Tea verse:
In an industry where it's hard to find an honest man,
Dick Asher arose with an anti-corruption game plan
He chose to experiment with Pink Floyd as his band
Back when radio promoters were paid 100 grand
Just to play any single that landed in their hand
No doubt the pay for play stayed in a Network man's hand
Impossible to prove as receipts thrown in the waste can.
So all I gotta say is Damn - damn

Asher's experiment centered around Another Brick in the Wall.
Wanting to know if corruption really stood all that tall.
He received a surprise that opened his eyes,
As KEARTH & KRLA, KFI & KHJ
The biggest stations in LA
All chose not to play
The Pink Floyd LP
Cause greed & corruption had their say.

Five sold out LA sports arena shows
Yet none of the major LA radio stations chose
To play the Pink Floyd single - surprising those
Who knew not of the industry's greatest of foes
An informal alliance of the top indie promotion men
This Network's stranglehold forced man an exec's pen
To fork over a 1/3 of their yearly profits
Disgusting how an exec could be corruptions greatest accomplice.

chorus 4x:

Pimp Tea verse 2:
In the late sixties, Columbia set a precedent with their new president
Ahead of his time, still in his prime, Joplin, Hancock, Floyd, all signed

In May of 1973, this man, Clive Davis was fired
Written out the history books, snubbed and dubbed to be a liar
Why did this happen you ask?
Could it be a US Attorney force's task

Well yes! A team known as project sound
Acted as a payola & drugola hound
Sniffing up cracks, not meant to be found
Believing the lies of Patsy Falcone
And David Wynshaw, never saw, the evil in his ways
Dubbed Clive's pimp, he simp-ly numbered his days
Fake invoices, bah mitzvahs and companies
Sour bets, mob connects, come on please!

You can't believe him when he goes and points his finger
Left Clive out with the wash to be rung through with the ringer
In the end, Clive was charged with doing very little wrong
88 hundred in unpaid taxes, so I dedicate him this song.

chorus 4x

Pimp Tea Verse 3:
Soon to realize, and despise the vice
That manages somehow to control all of our lives
The ECMAs and I can't name names
If I wanna play on a featured stagin'
Now I know Rich Terfry, he got my Back
Overlooked for 10 years, now he's givin' it right back
2004 alternative album of the year
And to it, he's making farting noise out his rear
Same with Junos and who knows what putos really does mean
Jones & Thomas I admit work hard in the scene,
But ultimately they're planting political beans
Sprouting up roots, yielding fruits of magical means.

Now maybe I'm twisting the story,
Or maybe my first two verses, although true, were meant more as an allegory.

The truth remains that in the last 3 years 11 rap artists were nominated in the best urban recording category
Out of those 11, none have won.
