Freaky Scene Biography

FREAKY SCENE, as the name suggests, is a mind-altering experience involving the mangling, melding and blending of numerous styles of music and dance. It is a brazen counter-point to the existing music scene and thus experimental to the core. The FREAKY SCENE "experience" ranges from the dead serious to the utterly ridiculous. It may not sound pretty at times, the levels might be tweaked oddly, and the performers (in full regalia), may seem off-balance. There is distortion, and the marching begins at the onset of mangled orchestral music. An inanimate object may even have to be destroyed or seriously damaged during any given set.

No one can be sure of what can happen during a FREAKY SCENE performance. As in any freaky scene, expect the unexpected. What we can guarantee is an unusual performance, both visually and musically.

Artist bio's:

The Shan Monster:
The Shan Monster is Shantell Powell, a dancer and performer with a strong background in theatre arts and Middle Eastern dance. She incorporates elements of Middle Eastern dance (colloquially known as belly dance) and martial arts with West African, modern, and lyrical jazz dancing. She has performed at a wide variety of venues, from restaurants and arts events to multicultural dinners and music concerts. She also has a strong background in electronic music, and has been an industrial DJ for ten years.

PIMP-T:
PIMP-T aka Troy Neilson is the Fredericton, NB rapper known as PIMP-T. As off-putting as his title might sound, PIMP-T actually represents a conceptual two-sided project. This 2003 ECMA award nominee provides entertainment with his all-for-fun pimpin side, but also presents a conscious side based around the acronym PIMP-T, which stands for Power Is Mindful Peace and T for Troy. With seven years experience reviewing urban music for The Brunswickan and 2002 Urban X-Posure award-winning HipHopCanada.com, Troy has grown tired of mindless ramblings about sex, drugs and killing. Instead, he intermingles his knowledge and creativity to bring forth a diverse hip-hop style, but with a distinctive small-town flavour. Renowned for his energetic live show, PIMP-T always makes an effort to pull out all the stops. Clad in vintage retro apparel, PIMP-T combines freestyle dance moves while dropping his verses. It's an unparalleled sight that if nothing else, will captivate you.

Rod Marquart:
Rod has been a drummer for over 25 years. He has formed, recorded and performed with numerous experimental projects in Toronto (Ignorantz, Mana), Halifax (Terrafunk) and Hamburg, Germany (Veto). In 1999, he created DRUMS & MACHINES and built up an eclectic body of work spanning seven independently released albums. His latest work in the FREAKY SCENE project is a new chapter both conceptually and musically. In a live setting, he is no longer behind the drum kit but vocalizes his thoughts on politics and human nature in spoken word format.
